I'm Abby,
nice to meet you.

I was born and raised in La Crosse, Wisconsin, and am currently in my 4th year of undergrad at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

I'm passionate about experiencing different cultures through travel, tasting diverse cuisines, and unwinding by listening to music! 🎧 ✈️ 🍱

My journey into the world of UX began unexpectedly during my junior year when I took a course called Interaction Design Studio. This class introduced me to the design process and interactive mock-ups in Figma. I was immediately drawn in, interested in how thoughtful design could shape people’s experiences with technology.

After completing the course, I changed my major from Data Science to Information Science to focus on UX principles and enrolled in every UX-related course my university had to offer.

Since that switch, I’ve built a strong foundation in coding languages, visual design, and user experience through internships and coursework. Last semester, I worked as the Web Marketing Assistant for UW-Madison’s Interdisciplinary Professional Program in the College of Engineering, where I focused on website optimization and digital marketing strategies. My experiences have shown me technology’s potential to drive real-world solutions, sharpening my focus on designing accessible, user-centered digital experiences.

Following my junior year, I had the incredible opportunity to work as a web development intern for a non-profit organization in Morogoro, Tanzania, where I built a website for a local secondary school. Working in the school opened my eyes to the challenges that Tanzanians (and citizens of other developing countries) face in accessing technology education—and the vast potential for tech adoption in East Africa. It also deepened my commitment to designing for global inclusivity.

After my internship ended, I was eager to travel abroad again and continue the work I had started in bridging the digital divide and making technology more accessible.

Background

Currently

Determined to continue this work, I sought out another international opportunity, which led me to Helsinki, Finland, where I am currently working as a digital marketing intern with Finnish Special Education in Africa (FSEA). My role involves website redesigns, content updates, and video projects, all in support of FSEA’s mission to expand access to education for students with special needs in Arusha, Tanzania. FSEA also partners with Sakea Studio, a marketing agency, so I’ve been lucky to learn from some seriously talented creatives along the way!

When I’m not working, you can find me walking by the sea, visiting the sauna, searching through Helsinki’s many thrift stores, or catching a flight to explore a different European country!

In May 2025, I will return to the US and graduate from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a Bachelor of Science in Information Science, along with certificates in Digital Studies and Science Communication.

Before starting a full-time position, I plan to spend some time backpacking through Central America to explore the beautiful countries in the region and improve my Spanish-speaking skills. After my travels, I am eager to launch my career in UX design and am currently seeking a full-time role in the field. I will be moving from Madison to Chicago and look forward to starting this next chapter of my post-grad life!
